Gareth Hawker studied Art at the Byam Shaw School (1968-71), and at the Royal Academy Schools (1971-74). He gained the Robin Guthrie Memorial Award for portrait drawing, the David Murray Landscape Studentship, and the highest award for drawing (a silver medal).
He moved to Norwich, UK, in 1974 where he was given the Greenshields Award.
He has been a full-time portrait painter for over 30 years.
